What makes a song one of your favorites? Does any song you know by heart qualify as a favorite? Do you even have to like a song for it to be considered a favorite? Below are what I consider to be some of my favorite songs of all time, and I wanted to provide a summary of why below each. Before listening to the song, read the summary and try to put yourself in my headspace. After listening, re-read the summary and see if what you felt matches how I feel. Finally think about if there is a song that means the same thing to you in your life.
In High School I remember thinking this was THE greatest song of all time. I don't remember why, but I think it was the first time I heard an orchestral breakdown in a rock song and I thought that was badass. At the time I didn't care so much about the lyrics of songs. So it wasn't until rediscoverying this song in College after my first real heart break when I really listened for the first time. And comming back to this song every couple of years with new experiences under my belt, a new line sticks out at me. But I'm still mostly including it because High School me said it was great, and I don't want to let that man down
This is my default karaoke song, so how can I not include it in a list of my favorites? But also this song speaks to the insecure kid I used to be. I've never been great at making friends, and I've gone through phases in my life where I thought I had none or that the ones I had didn't really care. Not to mention how terrible I was(and probably still am) with women. So to have a song that was popular durring my childhood summarize perfectly how it felt to be me at that age struggling to find companionship, it hits. And it's catchy as hell!
This song makes me think about love, life, and death. And the signifigance of all of it. 1 billion years of evolution and you and your partner have 40 years max to share it with eachother. Love them hard don't stop till they lay you out.
